As any good decision-maker knows, it’s important to weigh your options. When it comes to your oral health, this is no exception. If you have lost one (or more) teeth, having them replaced is important for many reasons, most importantly: oral health and aesthetics. When patients in Hollywood are faced with replacing missing teeth there are two common options: dental implants or dentures.

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. They sit on top of the gums and can be removed and put back into the mouth. The two types of dentures are full and partial. Full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth and they have an acrylic base that rests on top of the gums. Partial dentures replace a few teeth and they are on a metal framework that sits against natural teeth.

Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. They work by replacing the lost tooth root. This helps preserve bone structure. The implant can then be finished-off with dentures or a dental crown that attaches to it. Implants can withstand the same bite force as natural teeth and prevent the loss of jawbone structure, which can occur when there is no stimulation from the root.

So which option is best? If you are looking for a permanent solution that will be just like your natural teeth, you’ll want to go with dental implants.

The benefits of dental implants include:

  1. Eating what you like

With dental implants you won’t have to worry about your teeth slipping out of place or even falling out, which is a well-known occurrence with dentures. With dentures, patients are often restricted on the variety of foods that can be consumed easily.

  1. Remaining teeth are preserved

The act of taking out and putting partial dentures back in the mouth can wear or damage surrounding teeth. Dental implants remain in place and can be brushed and flossed just like natural teeth.

  1. No need for messy adhesives

Dentures require messy adhesives to stay in place, and even then, they can slip out. Once your dental implants are in, you never have to worry about them.

In the end, whether you go with dental implants or dentures, replacing missing teeth is important and something we encourage for all of our patients. For more information, please feel free to give us a call.
